Meet Beanweevil Tim Vaughan

Tim Vaughan has been an active participant in the rock, jazz, fusion, folk, and improv scenes in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 20 years.  Although mostly self-taught, his chief mentor since age 18 has been the low-profile master drummer, George Marsh.

Tim is the drum section leader of the Green Street Mortuary Band (another uniquely San Francisco organization, lead by Lisa Pollard and John Coppolla) and is a proud lifetime member of Carmaig de Forest's DeathGrooveLoveParty, on which CD he can be heard.  He also served for two years as the house drummer and rhythm instructor for the National Guitar Summer Workshop held at Dominican College in San Rafael.

Tim is a featured member of the folk band The Muskrats, who gave him the nickname Professor Rock for his meticulous approach to the odd-ball cover tunes that are a staple of these Berkeley-based troubadors.  The Muskrats' affection for Tim is obvious and reciprocated:  He was honored (albeit somewhat tongue-in-cheek) with a solo appearance on the cover of the their CD, Hootie's Hootenanny.

Tim has toured with a number of bands, including Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks.  On the Hot Licks 2000 Beatin' the Heat tour, he played at the Los Angeles Greek Theater and the Santa Barbara Bowl.  He also recently played at the Warfield in Dan Hicks' 60th Birthday Bash, being featured on drums on the finale song I Scare Myself.

In the 80's, Tim played drums for The Farmers under the pseudonym Joey, and later in Ugly Stick as Vinnie Romano.  A vinyl EP of The Farmers' Packed in An Urban Area is still available!  Tim also played with the fusion band Bozon.  This band won the Seven Creative Days arts-and-music contest/festival at Fort Mason in 1980, and was featured in a live concert with Santana.

On the Beanweevils debut album, Tim is pleased to share the percussive spotlight with a truly fine drummer, Bruce Ducheneaux.  Tim's much-loved colleague, the late Jim Overton, declared upon hearing the Beanweevils CD, "I like that angry Partridge Family thing ya got goin'.  Ya know, with the right breaks, you guys could zoom straight to the top of the middle!"

Tim can be contacted at professor@beanweevils.com.

Meet everybody in the band.
